Design Brief
CHALLENGE
Participants are tasked with designing a modern, fire-safe library featuring multifunctional spaces for all ages. The library should include traditional reading materials and modern formats like e-books, audiobooks, and audiovisual books. Crucially, the design must incorporate fire safety measures, such as fire-resistant materials, emergency exits, fire suppression systems, and clear evacuation plans.
SITE SELECTION
Participants should select a site within an urban or rural context, with a maximum area of 1 acre. The chosen site should have the potential to transform into a vibrant public space that promotes communal activities, gatherings, and interactions, significantly benefiting from educational and self-learning facilities. The site should be in dire need of change that can be well-achieved through a well-designed, fire-safe library.
ARCHITECTURAL AESTHETICS
The library's look and feel matters from the colors to the layout works in harmony, making it not just nice to look at but also easy to use.
SPATIAL PLANNING
Optimize the use of space within the library to provide functional, comfortable, innovative, and aesthetically pleasing spaces.
PRESENTATION QUALITY
Pay careful attention to the clarity, visual appeal, and storytelling aspect of your sheets.
INNOVATIVE FEATURES
Integrate innovative architectural elements and sustainable features, to showcase your creativity.
SUBMISSION
1. The project must be submitted using two (2) A1-sized sheets, whether in digital or hand-drawn format.
2. Floor plans should show furniture arrangements.
3. Site plan should show the orientation and connectivity of the building.
4. Elevations and sections of the building.
5. Materials and innovative construction techniques.
6. All drawings should be presented at a scale.
RULES AND REGULATION
1. English is the designated language for all drawing-related communication.
2. The deadline for submission is 25 December, 2024; submissions received after this date will not be considered.
3. The registration fee is non-refundable.
4. Under no circumstances should participants contact the jury.
5. Selected participants must present their designs to the jury using a laptop; mobile presentations are not accepted.
6. Failure to adhere to the rules may result in the disqualification of participants.
7. DiscoverArch retains the right to adjust the competition schedule.

Who can participate?
The competition is open to architecture students and individuals with a keen interest in Architecture design. Participants must be enrolled in or have completed a recognized program.
Can I change team members after I register?
Participants are prohibited from swapping or removing any existing team members after registration. To make changes, please send your request to
contact.discoverarch@gmail.com with the details of the new team member requested. Include your team's unique code in the email.
What are the modes of submissions?
Participants are requested to submit their work in PDF format with up to 2 sheets (digital or hand-drafted). Include the DiscoverArch logo on each sheet.
What is the maximum team size allowed?
Each team can have a maximum of four members and cannot exceed this limit. Participants who wish to participate individually can do so by filling out and submitting the details as a team leader.
